We all struggle with proper self-care from time to time, and some of us more than others. It can be all too easy to allow yourself to get into a rut, and then once you are there it is even harder to be able to get out of it. Fortunately, the good news is that there are always things that we can at least attempt to do in order to improve our self-care, and it is never the case that we have to give up. In this post, we are going to take a look at some of the more surprising ways that you might be able to practice better self-care, including a couple of ideas that might seem to be a little counter-intuitive. As you will see, they are there for a reason, and the reason is simple: because they work on improving your relationship with yourself.

1. Focus On Helping Others

Sometimes the reason that we lack proper self-care is actually because we are too self-absorbed. This then becomes an issue surrounding everything we do, and it becomes easier and easier to fall into bad habits and poor routines which ultimately affect us negatively. A good way to lift yourself out of this particular funk is to spend some time actively helping those around you. This could be as simple as lending a kind ear to a friend in distress, or it might be something more hands-on and long term such as choosing to volunteer with Habitat or Shelter. However you do it, focusing on others always has a way of keeping you feeling good about yourself, and it’s something that you should always consider doing if you want to improve your self-care fast.

2. Let Go

In a sense, when you need to get something done very badly, you need to somewhat let go of it. In other words, if you are resolutely and desperately trying to cling on to something, it is unlikely to actually stay with you. When It comes to trying to improve your self-care, sometimes you need to practice a kind of letting go in tandem with making some positive changes. The reason for this is clear. As long as you are steadfastly focusing on what you need to improve, you tend to create more of the problems than you would like. By letting go of your need to be perfect in your self-care, you allow yourself to ironically adopt better self-care routines naturally. Stop being hard on yourself, and just let your self-care come naturally. It’s easier than you think

3. Have Fun

One of the simplest ways to ensure you are looking after yourself is to find an opportunity to smile, have fun and see what good there is in the world. When you busy yourself with a task which you genuinely enjoy taking part in, it means that you are able to enjoy being yourself much more. That automatically then leads to a better self-care, so this is absolutely an important thing to consider if you want to improve the relationship you have with yourself.

Surprising Self-Care Activites- In Conclusion

Are you surprised these activities will trigger your self-care points?

For me, I would have never thought!  Take for example, helping others. By volunteering for a good cause, you are actually caring for yourself. If you analyze this, self-care is really anything that makes you feel good. Does helping others makes you feel better? Then, great! Help others to help you-how noble is that!

So friends, let’s be present in the moment. Enjoy the nanoseconds life has to offer. Smile a little wide, breathe in the fresh air, stop a moment to say please and thank you. For, these little gestures go a long way in mending ourselves and eventually, lead to better self-care.

Love and light xx
